    Description

Handsome fold-out 1976 Conoco road map of the United States, printed more than 45 years ago.
This map opens to 18" x 30½" and has a U.S. highway map on one side, with cartography by H.M. Gousha.
The map was distributed by the Continental Oil Company in 1976 and is dated in the legend. The code number in the lower margin is 8-XX.
On the other side there's a map of the nation's topography as it appeared in 1776, with a key to forts, settlements, and historical landmarks, copyrighted by Jeppeson & Company.
The artwork on the front shows colonial flag bearers crossing the Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, referenced in Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem
    Concord Hymn.
    Here's the first stanza:
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
    Condition:
    This map is in
    excellent condition,
    bright and clean, with
    no
marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
