The charming size of this globe conveys the same historical detail as other larger globe models.   Robert de Vaugondy was the foremost map maker in France during the 18th century, a time when explorers and navigators pushed back known frontiers. De Vaugondy presented this globe of exploration, marking the routes of contemporary explorers, to the French King Louis XV. This earned him the title of Cartographer to the Royal Court. The fact that relatively accurate globes were made centuries ago speaks for the sophistication of early science and cartography. This globe is truly an early document of history.
