    Description

Get ready to explore Io, Jupiter's innermost and highly volcanic Galilean moon.
    Astronomy
magazine is proud to unveil the all-new Io Globe .  Developed by the staff of
    Astronomy
magazine along with USGS cartographer, Trent Hare, this globe was produced using images from Voyager 1, Voyager 2, and the Galileo spacecraft.
This richly detailed, injection-molded 12" desktop globe shows 223 named surface features.  Among these features, you'll find paterae (volcanic pits), montes (mountain ranges or mountains), fluctūs (areas covered by volcanic lava flows), and regiones (large regions of land marked by reflective or color distinctions).  The International Astronomical Union officially recognizes 224 named surface features, and we've included all but one.  We excluded Echo Mensa, which is an elevated area with a flat top and steep cliffs, because it's hidden by the metal cap of our globe's south pole.
Each globe is made of long-lasting durable plastic with just a single seam between hemispheres and comes with a clear acrylic display base and informational flyer.
